There’s no smoking gun here – George Mack on highagency.com already said the term “high agency” was coined by someone else. But if I needed a smoking gun to show that “high agency” was already influencing the tech world before George Mack’s post, it would be this.
Krazam is the greatest YouTube channel in the tech industry or anywhere, no citation needed.
What is “high agency”? To the cynical, it is a worthless buzzword made popular by bloggers, social media influencers, and tech people in general. To George Mack, it is the most important idea of the 21st century.
George Mack explains it in a dozen memes.
The Actual Spread
Eric Weinstein is an investor who came up with it. The full spread of this viral term can be traced here, but apparently it became associated with Elon Musk and also derided by psychologists who criticized it for being worthless. Tim Denning also wrote about it, and George Mack’s post came after.
Why Does It Matter?
I think it’s like magic. If you believe it exists, great.
If you think it’s just something they made up to describe impressive things we already knew existed, fine.
But I kind of wonder if maybe the key to success is reblogging this kind of stuff and actually believing it.
